    Dynkin TBA's

    We prove a useful identity valid for all ADEADE minimal S-matrices, that clarifies the transformation of the relative thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) from its standard form into the universal one proposed by Al.B.Zamolodchikov. By considering the graph encoding of the system of functional equations for the exponentials of the pseudoenergies, we show that any such system having the same form as those for the ADEADE TBA's, can be encoded on A,D,E,A/Z2A,D,E,A/Z_2 only. This includes, besides the known ADEADE diagonal scattering, the set of all SU(2)SU(2) related {\em magnonic} TBA's. We explore this class sistematically and find some interesting new massive and massless RG flows. The generalization to classes related to higher rank algebras is briefly presented and an intriguing relation with level-rank duality is signalled.Comment: 29 pages, Latex (no macros) DFUB-92-11, DFTT-31/9

    Complex WKB Analysis of a PT Symmetric Eigenvalue Problem

    The spectra of a particular class of PT symmetric eigenvalue problems has previously been studied, and found to have an extremely rich structure. In this paper we present an explanation for these spectral properties in terms of quantisation conditions obtained from the complex WKB method. In particular, we consider the relation of the quantisation conditions to the reality and positivity properties of the eigenvalues. The methods are also used to examine further the pattern of eigenvalue degeneracies observed by Dorey et al. in [1,2].Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures. Added references, minor revision

    The dilute A_L models and the integrable perturbations of unitary minimal CFTs

    Recently, a set of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations is proposed by Dorey, Pocklington and Tateo for unitary minimal models perturbed by \phi_{1,2} or \phi_{2,1} operator. We examine their results in view of the lattice analogues, dilute A_L models at regime 1 and 2. Taking M_{5,6}+\phi_{1,2} and M_{3,4}+\phi_{2,1} as the simplest examples, we will explicitly show that the conjectured TBA equations can be recovered from the lattice model in a scaling limit.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure

    Comparison between carcasses of artificially suckled I.H.D.H. (Italian Heavy Draught Horse) foals slaughtered at 6 months and traditional carcasses obtained by foals slaughtered at 11 and 18 months

    Aim of the study was the evaluation of a innovative I.H.D.H. carcass production sys- tem in order to improve the conditions for mare's milk production. In the trial were used 18 foals, subdi- vided in three randomized groups of 6 animals each. Every group was slaughtered at a different age: 6 months (artificially suckled), 11 months and 18 months (naturally suckled, following traditional rearing systems). Six months old foals carcasses were characterized by 75.59 % of lean, 12.79 % of fat and 11.64 % of bone. Six months foals carcasses showed the lean end the fact respectively higher (P<0.001) end lower (P<0.001) than 18 months ones (P<0.001), and the bone higher than 11 months foals (P<0.001). Six months hind quarter incidence was 65.00 %, more than found for 18 months carcasses (P<0.001). Moreo- ver, 6 months carcasses showed an first quality cuts incidence higher than 11 months foals (P<0.01)

    Machine learning for cloud detection of globally distributed sentinel-2 images

    In recent years, a number of different procedures have been proposed for segmentation of remote sensing images, basing on spectral information. Model-based and machine learning strategies have been investigated in several studies. This work presents a comprehensive overview and an unbiased comparison of the most adopted segmentation strategies: Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forests, Neural networks, Sen2Cor, FMask and MAJA. We used a training set for learning and two different independent sets for testing. The comparison accounted for 135 images acquired from 54 different worldwide sites. We observed that machine learning segmentations are extremely reliable when the training and test are homogeneous. SVM performed slightly better than other methods. In particular, when using heterogeneous test data, SVM remained the most accurate segmentation method while state-of-the-art model-based methods such as MAJA and FMask obtained better sensitivity and precision, respectively. Therefore, even if each method has its specific advantages and drawbacks, SVM resulted in a competitive option for remote sensing applications

    A New Family of Diagonal Ade-Related Scattering Theories

    We propose the factorizable S-matrices of the massive excitations of the non-unitary minimal model M2,11M_{2,11} perturbed by the operator Φ1,4\Phi_{1,4}. The massive excitations and the whole set of two particle S-matrices of the theory is simply related to the E8E_8 unitary minimal scattering theory. The counting argument and the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) are applied to this scattering theory in order to support this interpretation. Generalizing this result, we describe a new family of NON UNITARY and DIAGONAL ADEADE-related scattering theories. A further generalization suggests the magnonic TBA for a large class of non-unitary \G\otimes\G/\G coset models (\G=A_{odd},D_n,E_{6,7,8}) perturbed by Φid,id,adj\Phi_{id,id,adj}, described by non-diagonal S-matrices.Comment: 13 pages, Latex (no macros), DFUB-92-12, DFTT/30-9

    Influence of seasonality on the comfort supplied by different materials used as cubicle flooring for dairy cows

    The comfort provided by four different cubicle floorings was evaluated with a preference test in relation to winter and summer seasons. The test showed that polyethylene vinyl acetate and polypropylene vinyl acetate mats were preferred during winter, while solid manure and wood shavings assured more comfort than inorganic floorings during summer period. Results obtained suggest that the resting comfort of cubicle floorings may be evaluated also in relation to environmental microclimatic patterns
